One of the advantages of digital photography, which these photos represent, is that one can more easily exceed some of the limits of traditional photography - in this case, close-up or "macro" photographs.
Some of these photos are the result of being able to focus clearly at a distance of about one inch.
The world can look very different from such a perspective.
